Castle Rising – 1st August 2021
With covid, the recent lifting of lockdown and the generally cold Norfolk weather, assembling a side was extremely challenging but with the help of 8 guests, the “show went on” and we had a very good afternoon’s cricket!
The weather was actually quite pleasant for most of the afternoon, despite a suspect forecast.
Castle Rising won the toss , and having only scored 22 the day before, decided to put WNCC into bat in this 40 over match.
The WNCC innings lost Nick Morgan early on to a very good delivery, before the Todds (Father and Son) settled things down , with Harry Todd scoring an aggressive and impressive 40. After Dad played on to a ball that kept low, William Everall joined him, making a sound 25 including his first ever six in adult cricket! Shalto Hunt , age 12, showing the WNCC diversity policy in terms of age, scored a very technically correct and impressive 14, as well as Charlie Bidwell attacking the bowling well to score 18. The innings was rounded off by one of the best No. 11s Castle Rising has ever seen in Richard Wilson, scoring 26 not out (had he not arrived late, he would have been much higher up the order!).
Castle Rising went into bat and struggled almost straight away to challenge the WNCC score of 165 off 38 overs. The Bidwell boys started off well, unsettling Castle Rising’s top order with early pace, before Nick Morgan entered the attack , producing stunning figures of 4 for 4 runs – he was unplayable! Toby Culling bowled well to get 2 good wickets, with the veteran spinner and match captain , Dick Culling, unselfishly giving the youngsters a chance when he could have wrapped things up. Castle Rising were all out for 81 off 29.2 overs.
All in all, a successful afternoon for WNCC.
