Russell overcomes Royal Wedding snub

Will Russell overcame his immense disappointment at being the only Old Etonian not to receive an invitation to the Royal Wedding by smashing a princely 100 not out in 56 balls to see WNCC to their 2nd win of the season. After the Captain had lost the toss (in what turned out to be his only contribution of the day) and the Trinity opening pair had amassed 67 runs from 13 overs, it was Wilson-Stephens who made a triple breakthrough. Incredibly in a four over spell of mixed filth, the students managed to miss his only three straight balls. Stanton W was brought onto bowl and so sure was he of getting amongst the wickets that he even recalled their no 5 batsman when the Umpire had given him out LBW. He followed this with a multiple ball over and was crestfallen when after bowling 6 balls was told by the Umpire he still 5 more to go. Sutton and Kennedy then bowled with such venom that the Trinity tail treated each delivery like a spitting cobra. Sutton picked up 3 bunnies, with the remaining wickets shared between Holloway, Stanton B, Scully and Kennedy. Trinity were all out for 145 in the 38th over.

The Captain sent in Russell and Fairey with the strict instructions to bat right through as Sutton was down to bat at 3. To everyones utter amazement they did exactly that and in a week when 10 million school boys changed their screensaver to a picture of Pippa Middleton’s rear, Norwich got promoted to the premier league, Obama took the Bin’s out on a bank holiday, Will Russell played an innings of such unexpected orthodoxy and timing that he scored 84 runs in boundaries with barely an agricultural smear. He was admirably supported by Fairey (41 runs from 60 balls) whose sensible batting was only explained by the appearance of his parents at the end of the game. Russell finished the match with a huge straight six to bring up his hundred with the game won in the 19th over by 10 wickets.
