Holkham win by 8 wickets
WNCC 240 for 5 Holkham CC 241 for 2
Things started well for West Norfolk. We won the toss and batted, amassing 240 runs in 40 overs. J.Everall (34) and Henry Rudkin (53) had a good opening partnership before succumbing to Denis the 66-year-old pie thrower. Fortunately Henry Mason and Mike Fairey resisted temptation and built a century partnership. Henry nearly succumbed to the age-old WN trick of being clapped for his 50 when on 49. He duly ran himself out next ball. Fortunately for Henry, Jim Thompson has not only inherited Rocky’s ability to spin the ball but also his mathematical prowess – on recount Henry had got 50! Mike Fairey ended up with a good 67 not out, but nearly needed the air ambulance to remove him after too many singles!
West Norfolk went into tea full of confidence, slating the opposition’s fielding, with Henry Mason uttering the fateful words, “If we lose this we’re crap”.
Ben Stanton and Tomo got the bowling off to a good start, Tomo got 2 wickets, bringing Spunky (turncoat) Seamen to the crease at Number 4 – victory was there for the taking. Unfortunately WN’s fielding and bowling declined to a level well below Holkham and low even by WN standards. The game was won by the Holkham opener who got 122 not out, was dropped 3 times and was very adept at hitting the bad ball. Turncoat Seamen also got 50 not out in what was a good Holkham victory.
