Solid old tail holds out for a draw

Despite the match manager’s attempts to strengthen the side by dropping himself, the bowling was loose and the scoring from Gresham’s free and easy. Four Greshams boys made 50, including Zimbabwian U19 Tatenda Chiradza, who was brilliantly trapped leg-before by Kennedy Jnr. WN struggled to hold catches – only three wickets where caught, all with gloves. Brothers Ally and Tom Sheridan also scored unbeaten fifties – a first for Greshams?

A good start from Jeremy Stanton and Harry Kennedy, both making the twenties, soon gave way to a minu collapse. We were saved by Rober Wilson, who smacked an agriculturally entertaining 43 including three sixes. Conversely to Greshams WN had two brothers Ed and Henry Parker both score ducks – I doubt this is a first for WN!

In the end it was left to James Holden (55*) and number 11 Ben Stanton (19*) to dig in and prevent a loss.
