West Norfolk Steady Batting Performance Upstaged by Young Granta Unbroken Victory Partnership
Rusty batting and some very unlucky bowling (if not the occasional wide delivery) allows Young Granta side to impose a humiliating blow to WNCC
WN won the toss and batted scoring 169 all out in the 40th Over. Granta replied 173 for 0 in 36 overs.
WN would have needed to score 200 to make the game a challenge to Granta. Captain Fairey set this as a target from the off but despite some nice looking starts (Richard Thompson, Simon Talbot-Williams & Jim Thompson) no one went on to pass 40 and wickets continued to fall leaving us 30 runs short of a defendible target. Without the ability to build scoreboard pressure on the opposition’s young openers it became a difficult score to protect. The Captain was forced to try all bowling options, be it some only lasted for a single over! Ultimately the struggle was in vein and Granta won by 10 wickets with 3 ovrs to spare.
