Team Sutton to the fore in 540 run thriller

Another wonderful game of cricket was edged by WNCC in the penultimate over as we chased down 270. Felsted won the toss and elected to bat and by 3pm had 220 for 2 on the scoreboard. The opening bowlers, Aaron Watson (on debut) and Ben Stanton were brought back in the hope of adding to the wickets gained by Nathan Lomax (also on his debut) and Jim Thompson.

In the last 50 minutes Felsted only managed a further 48 runs and lost 6 more wickets as Ben Stanton with 4 wickets and Aaron Watson with 2 wickets brought us back in the match with straight (Ben) and hostile (Aaron) bowling.

WNCC opened up with Frankie and Ollie Sutton (on debut). Aged 16 and 15 respectively they gave us the perfect start with 120 runs for the opening partnership. Previous reports have mentioned the bright cricketing future of Frankie (56), but the Sutton conveyor belt has produced yet another run machine as Ollie (63) went to his 50 with a quite exceptional reverse sweep. Ben Wright (the 4th player on debut) came in at no 3 and smote a quickfire 47 before holing out in true WNCC fashion. Chris Sutton joined Joel Garner with the score on 187 for 4 and over 7 an over required. The old master (Chris not Joel!) saw us home with a lesson in how to finish a tight game as wickets tumbled around him and in the process secured the third fifty of the day for the Sutton family.

This was a victory against a very strong Felsted side and many thanks must go to the 4 debutants who all contributed to the win and to the Felsted Robins who made such a good game of it.
