Tied up at Castle Rising
On a hot day in August, as England regain the ashes, a thoroughly enjoyable game of cricket took place in the picturesque village of Castle Rising.
Thomo, a good tosser (at least) made his best decision early on, winning the toss and putting Castle Rising into field in the sun. The innings got off to a cracking start with 10 runs off the first to balls, two boundaries that set the tone for James Everall’s fantastic 143, the season’s highest score. Henry Rudkin playing his second game for the club scored his second fifty (68). WNCC ended up 269 for five wickets in just 35 overs.
Seaman and Walpole managed to extract themselves from the pub in time to throw some pace down, but inroads into the Rising side was slow, finally Seaman managed a breakthrough (2 for 73). Castle Rising kept with the required run rate but only really capitulated at the sight of pies from Culling (4 for 41) and Thorne (2 for 49).
Just when the scores were tied with one ball to spare, Thomo threw down the bowlers end stumps from backward point to tie the game! Is this the first in WNCC history?
