WN Win by Six wickets
The annual Castle Rising Match started in sunny conditions with most of the team arriving late from the local pub. Nevertheless, WNCC , having lost the toss, started brightly in the field with a pacey opening spell from Will Means. The wicket was relatively slow but Castle Rising made steady progress putting on 50 for the first wicket. WNCC had a young “Father & sons” team but had depth in bowling and impressive performances from George Means, Harry Thompson , Ned Bent (all 2 wickets each) and Ollie Holden restricted the home team to 141 all out. Of particular note was James Holden’s keeping display, who spent most of his time taking balls down the leg-side, and some unusually good catching towards the end of the innings.
The opening partnership of John Everall and William Everall (age 10, probably the youngest opening WNCC batsman) could not resist the tempting Castle Rising opening bowling and soon succumbed to unnecessary shots, before Richard Thompson (81 not out) and Ned Bent (29) put together an impressive stand which meant WNCC won by 6 wickets.
All in all, a highly successful day for WNCC.
