On almost the first beautiful evening of the Summer WNCC timed their run chase to perfection with an incredible last ball victory.

Winning the toss Mattishall set about our attack with gusto. Even the mercurial Nathan Lomax and Angus Turnbull were rocked by a scintillating start which saw the excellent JC Smith crash 23 off 14 balls. Perplexingly Smith disappeared as quickly taking a ludicrous second to our hero NaLo thus departing Run Out! All our 7 bowlers performed admirably but late arrival Baldrick Waters was particularly useful with 2 for 22. Debutantes Alfie Nickerson, Matt Barker & Patrick (Shed) Sheridan chipped in and constrained Mattishall to a passable 111

STW and Matt Barker opened up steadily but STW was to depart played on after a costume/equipment malfunction allowed the ball to trickle dislodge one bail; played on! Sheridan didn’t last long but James Holden looked secure from the word go and complimented Barkers 32 with a beautifully timed 29.

However, at 82 JH departed to a rash slog exposing the tail! Ashcroft lasted one ball; Esse B a few more and suddenly we were in trouble. Fortunately Alfie Nickerson fought bravely with an invaluble 10 and although Baldrick also was inexplicably taken first ball LBW a few more nudges and nurdles took us to requiring 7 off the last over with our last men, NaLo and Walpole at the crease. The tension was palpable but Walpole was composed with 3 sensational singles leaving NaLo requiring 2 from the last ball. Splendiferously he connected and smote a leg side lofted drive betweens fielders and we were home and dry!

A very happy and entertaining evening was had by all.
