1st round exit for WNCC in Fisher Cup
An entertaining evening!
West Norfolk fielded first and with the first over of Fakenham’s innings being a maiden WNCC were hopeful of restricting Fakenham to around 120 runs from their allotted 20 overs. 8 overs later 100 was on the board and WNCC would have settled for 220 as Monahan, the left handed Fakenham opener reached 65 off 25 deliveries. WNCC were looking decidedly ragged in the field until wickets from Waters and Walpole (When he arrived) stemmed the flow. WNCC averaged about twice the age of their opponents but running 2 to silly mid off was rubbing it in a bit…………! Frankie Sutton bowled 5 very tidy, though wicketless overs and Stanton B bought himself back at the end to rescue his figures. Fakenham ended on 174 for 5, tough but gettable.
With a strong batting line up Holden and Frankie Sutton opened the innings both looking in good touch and Sutton in particular knocking the ball freely to all parts of the ground and with Sutton senior and Garner also ticking along nicely West Norfolk were ahead of the required rate until 13th over. Marcus Seaman seemed intent on scoring although unfortunately this was to take place at the Dabbling Duck at Massingham and he jumped ship. Our chances diminished with the fading light and a few cheap wickets and we reached 164 for 7 after our allotted 20 overs, a creditable display against a decent bowling attack.
