After closely losing out to the Wes Durston XI and after a heavy night on the beers West Norfolk CC returned to the field against a strong Burghley Park Side.

After choosing to bat first West Norfolk posted what seemed like a below par 242. With a few sore heads and a series of loose shots the innings was held together by a great 56 at the top of the order by West Norfolk debutant Al Russell. Wickets tumbled quickly before lunch and at one stage it looked like West Norfolk could be bowled out before the lunch break but a gritty 31 from Dom Crane and a quick 23 from Nick Davies got us to the lunch break.

Coming back out after lunch Josh Lecompte found his stride and bludgeoned 51 to get us up to 242. Lomax contributing with a patient 16 too, to hold the tail together.

Having previously posted 350 + it seemed like West Norfolk were in for a short afternoon. With a sprinkle of inspired captaincy and with 12 players it was decided to punish any misfield throughout the day to ensure our fielding levels stayed high. What happened next was nothing short of remarkable.

Thommo rolled back the years with “Uncle Ben” as West Norfolk struck early. Tom, Ed, AJ and Hugh Stanton all contributed with the ball before Dom Crane “ Shane Warne” as he’s now known to his team mates took a match winning 3-31 to get West Norfolk over the line. Special mention to Matt Riddington returning from a serious injury who kept impeccably behind the stumps.  West Norfolk bowled Burghley out for 204 to win the game.

As always the game was played in great spirits and thanks again to Jeremy for organising a fantastic few days away.
